Pace calculator

Calculate pace, time or distance from the other two values, with both kilometre and mile conversions.

Choose the value you want to find and enter the other two. Your result includes pace per kilometre and per mile, plus speed in both units. Use it to understand a completed run or work out the pace for a finish-time goal, then save, share or print your calculation.

Enter time as minutes and seconds, such as 25:00, or hours, minutes and seconds for longer runs. Pace tells you how long each kilometre or mile takes; speed shows how far you cover in an hour.

behind this tool.

Choose the value you need.

  1. Select kilometres or miles for your distance.
  2. Choose pace, time or distance as the value to calculate.
  3. Enter the other two values. Use m:ss or h:mm:ss for time and m:ss for pace.

A worked example

Distance 5 km and time 25:00:

  • Pace: 5:00 per km
  • Equivalent pace: 8:03 per mile
  • Speed: 12.0 km/h and 7.5 miles/hour

How your running pace is calculated

The calculator divides your total time by your distance to find your average pace. For example, 25 minutes divided by 5 kilometres gives a pace of 5 minutes per kilometre.

To find time, multiply pace by distance. To find distance, divide total time by pace in the selected unit.

Your distance uses the selected unit. The result also shows pace in minutes per kilometre and per mile, plus speed in kilometres per hour and miles per hour.

For conversions, one mile is exactly 1609.344 metres. Calculations keep full precision, then displayed times round to the nearest second and speeds to one decimal place.
